The Board of Control for Cricket in India clarified that new head coach Ravi Shastri was consulted before the Cricket Advisory Committee decided on appointing Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as consultants.
In a release sent on Thursday, BCCI informed that the CAC, comprising of India stalwarts Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly had conducted the selection process transparently. The Board also confirmed that the appointment of Dravid and Zaheer was only for overseas tours.
“After taking the decision on his selection, the CAC consulted him (Shastri) and decided on having Batting and Bowling consultants on overseas tour-to-tour basis, as per the requirement of the team,” the statement read.
“The recommendation for Mr. Ravi Shastri was made on the merit of his presentation and the vision that he projected for taking the team to greater heights,” it added.
Reports on Thursday had suggested that some members of the Committee of Administrators were peeved at the CAC’s move to appoint consultants. Some argued that these names were confirmed without consulting Shastri.
