Polish-Brazilian pair Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo clinched the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon on Saturday, while Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina picked up the women’s doubles crown.

This was Kubot and Melo’s first Major title together as a team. They defeated the 16th seeded Austrian-Croatian team of Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic. Playing in a charged five-setter that lasted for four hours and 40 minutes, Kubot and Melo triumphed 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(2), 3-6, 13-11.

While most of their match was played with the Centre Court roof open, visibility problems because of fading daylight meant that the two teams played out the last portion of their match under the roof.

The lengthy duration of the match coupled with time restrictions at Wimbledon also meant that the proceedings of the women’s doubles final could have been carried forward to Sunday. However, the second seeded Russian team of Makarova and Vesnina had completely different ideas as they played out a thoroughly one-sided final against the Taiwanese-Romanian team of Hao-Ching Chan and Monica Niculescu.

Playing under the roof, Makarova and Vesnina prevailed over their ninth seeded opponents, 6-0, 6-0 in 54 minutes. This is their third Major as a pair. They had previously won the French and US Open titles in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
