Samit Dravid and Aryan Joshi, sons of former India players Rahul Dravid and Sunil Joshi, both hit centuries for their school in the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s BTR Cup U-14 tournament.
Samit and Aryan steered the Mallya Aditi International School to a massive 412-run win against Vivekanada School. Aryan, who top-scored for his team with 154, and Samit’s feats helped their team get to 500/5 in just 50 overs. The bowlers then bowled out their opponents for just 88.
Samit has been a consistent performer in age-group cricket and rose to prominence after being adjudged the best batsman at the U-12 Gopalan Cricket Challenge tournament in 2015. The following year, the 11-year-old further enhanced his reputation with a stroke-filled 125 for the Bangalore United Cricket Club.
At the time, his father Rahul Dravid, the current India U-19 coach, had tempered expectations among fans about Samit. “He’s okay, he’s got good hand-eye coordination. But no, he just smashes it and that is what I encourage him to do – just smash it,” Dravid was quoted as saying by Times of India.
“I don’t really get into trying to coach him too much. I just want him to enjoy it and just play the game, have some fun with it. He plays different sports at the moment, which is good – he plays football and cricket, he swims. So that’s nice. He is too young at the moment for anything more.”
