India and Hyderabad pacer Mohammad Siraj’s social media accounts – Twitter, Facebook and Instagram – were hacked by a 14-year-old boy, according to a report. The 23-year-old subsequently lodged a complaint with the Telangana cyber police on Tuesday.
The hacker sent “I love you” messages to many of Siraj’s friends, the Times of India reported. Siraj, who made his Twenty20 International debut against New Zealand last year, came to know about the incident through his friends.
The police traced the 14-year-old, tracked him down, and questioned him at his residence in the presence of his parents.
“The hacker gave a cell phone number as the new password to access social media accounts of Siraj,” an investigating officer was quoted as saying by Times of India. “We obtained the details of the cell phone number and realised that it was being used by a 14-year-old boy from Begumpet, who is the son of a watchman.”
The officers also noted that the minor’s brother and Siraj were friends. A case was registered under the IT Act but it is learnt that Siraj had requested the police to not book a case against the boy.
Mohammad Siraj, who represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, has played two T20Is for India.
