Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been named as the replacement for the injured Ravindra Jadeja in the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup. The all-rounder is suffering from a side strain and has been advised rest, according to the BCCI.
The ROI team will take on take on Ranji Trophy champions Vidarbha in the Irani Cup which will be held in Nagpur from March 14-18.
“Mr. Jadeja suffered a side strain and has been advised rest,” said the BCCI in a statement.
Ashwin had earlier missed the recently concluded Deodhar Trophy with a ‘niggling issue’ and was adviced a week’s rest. “He has now recovered and is declared fit to play,” the statement added.
Both Ashwin and Jadeja remain an integral part of the Indian Test team. Howver, they are not in the limited overs scheme of things, losing their spots to Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Both of them find themselves in the A category of BCCI’s new central contracts, as opposed to the A+ one which includes the cricketers who play in all three formats of the game for India.
