Nepal youngster Sandeep Lamicchane is hoping to make most of his opportunity when he turns up to play in the 2018 edition of the Caribbean Premier League.

Lamicchane, who will turn 18 later this year, was afforded limited opportunities in the recently concluded Indian Premier League where he played three games for Delhi Daredevils.

Picked by St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the CPL, the teenager hopes to take the next step in his bid to become a professional cricketer.

“I hope I’ll make it count,”Lamichhane was quoted as saying by ICC. “Playing with big names such as Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis, it will be a good booster for me.

I just want to grow my cricket every time so that I can help Nepal go forward. The journey has been good so far and I would like to keep it that way.”

Since making his debut for Nepal at the age of 16, the leg-spinner has made quite a name for himself as an effective bowler in the shortest format.

Lamicchane was the leading wicket-taker at the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 with 17 wickets, leading Nepal into the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe earlier this year.

His four-wicket haul in Nepal’s win over Papua New Guinea. The victory would pave the way for his side to gain the ODI status for the first time. In their first official ODI Nepal will take on The Netherlands on August 3.

With appearances in major international leagues, Lamicchane will be expected to give inputs to his team-mates on the big international stage. The youngster is aware of the responsibility on his shoulders. He hopes these developments help the sport grow further in his country.

“We are working hard,” said Lamicchane. “We are playing Prime Minister’s Cup cricket right now in Nepal so that we can prepare ourselves for some good cricket tournaments.

“We have secured ODI status for four years and are looking forward to making an impact on the international arena. Aim is to eventually to be counted among the Test playing nations,” he added.
