Mumbai: Five dead on Bandra-Worli sea link after accident between four cars and ambulance
Eight persons were injured, out of whom six are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
Five persons were killed and eight were injured after an accident between an ambulance and four cars on the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai at 3 am Wednesday, the police, ANI reported.
An unidentified police official said that a car rammed into the divider on the bridge, after which an ambulance was sent to the spot, PTI reported. Drivers of two other cars stopped on the bridge to help, he said.
Moments later, a speeding car rammed into the three cars and the ambulance, the official said.
Six of the eight wounded persons are undergoing treatment in different hospitals in the city. The remaining two sustained minor injuries and were allowed to go after treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the deaths.
“Pained by the loss of lives due to an accident on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai,” he wrote in a tweet. “Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope that those who have been injured have a speedy recovery.”
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also expressed condolences to the families of those who died.
