Haryana government orders SIT probe into Dalit boy killing
The police said the postmortem report conducted by doctors showed that the boy had died due to hanging.
The Haryana government on Saturday ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team to probe the death of a 14-year-old Dalit boy in Gohana on Thursday. The SIT will be headed by Rohtak Deputy Superintendent of Police Amit Bhatia and include two other inspectors.
Two Assistant Sub-Inspectors of Police were earlier booked on murder charges following allegations from the boy's family that he had died in police custody, after being questioned over the theft of a pigeon. The police said the postmortem report conducted by doctors showed that the boy had died due to hanging. The incident occurred two days after two Dalit children were burnt alive in the Sunped village in Haryana's Faridabad district. Both incidents have drawn widespread outrage.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar visited Gohana on Friday and claimed that the teenager had committed suicide. The Congress criticised Khattar for commenting and passing a verdict on the case before the investigation was completed, reported the Press Trust of India.
