West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose resigns ahead of Assembly elections
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has claimed that Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has been appointed as the new governor of West Bengal.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose resigned from his post on Thursday, ANI quoted his officer on special duty as saying.
Bose, who had been appointed governor in November 2022, submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, the news agency reported.
Confirming the development, Bose told PTI that he had “spent enough time at [the] Governor’s office”.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was “shocked and deeply concerned” by the sudden resignation and that the reasons behind it were not known to her.
Banerjee said on social media that she would not be surprised if Bose had faced pressure from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to “serve certain political interests on the eve of the forthcoming State Assembly elections”.
Banerjee also claimed that Shah informed her that RN Ravi, the current Tamil Nadu governor, would be appointed as the next governor of West Bengal.
She alleged that the decision had been taken without consulting the state government and said that “such actions undermine the spirit of the Constitution of India and strike at the very foundation of our federal structure”.
