Commenting on Bose’s resignation in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she was “shocked and deeply concerned” by the sudden move and that the reasons behind it were not known to her.
Banerjee said on social media that she would not be surprised if Bose had faced pressure from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to “serve certain political interests on the eve of the forthcoming state Assembly elections”.
Banerjee also claimed that Shah informed her that Ravi would be appointed as the next governor of West Bengal.
She alleged that the decision had been taken without consulting the state government “as per the established convention”, and that such actions undermine the spirit of the Constitution and “strike at the very foundation of our federal structure”.
Bose had faced criticism from BJP leaders for his allegedly less confrontational approach towards the Trinamool Congress government in the state, The Indian Express reported. Party leaders, including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, had also questioned him for being close to the chief minister.
