CBI seeks Supreme Court's permission to arrest Dayanidhi Maran
The agency wants to question the former telecom minister about the telephone exchange scam, in which he allegedly allotted hundreds of phone lines to his brother’s TV channel.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday sought the Supreme Court’s permission to arrest former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran in the telephone exchange scam. The CBI said he is not cooperating in their investigations and custodial interrogation is the only option they are left with. The Supreme Court has given Maran till November 27 to respond and stayed his arrest until then.
The CBI had filed a case against Maran and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited for allegedly allotting hundreds of high-speed telephone lines to his home in Chennai, which were then connected to his brother Kalanithi Maran's channel, Sun TV. The CBI has alleged that Maran’s misappropriation caused the exchequer a loss of Rs1.78 crores, NDTV reported.
