Shiv Sena workers on Friday assaulted Right to Information activist Mallikarjun Bhaikatti with an iron rod and blackened his face in Latur, Maharashtra. However, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray condemned the incident on Saturday, firing the workers involved in the attack.

Press Trust of India reported that Bhaikatti exposed an illegal construction case through an RTI query and held a press conference on the matter on Friday. The RTI response showed there was about 14,000 sq ft of illegal work in a four-storeyed building and a boys' hostel on Latur-Nanded road. Sena workers assaulted Bhaikatti in front of around 4,000 students at the college where the construction was carried out. He was admitted to hospital. He later welcomed the Sena's decision to fire its workers, and said he would continue to protest and take legal action if the police did not provide him with protection, ANI reported.

Earlier this month, the party's workers threw ink and paint on Sudheendra Kulkarni, chairman of Observer Research Foundation for organising an event to launch a book by former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.
