Real estate sector will pick up again, says Jaitley
The finance minister said the government had taken steps to help the lagging industry, and that subsidies cannot sustain growth.
The slowdown in the real estate sector should come to an end soon, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Saturday, while pointing out that the industry needs to survive on the market economy and not on subsidies. Jaitley was speaking at a housing market conference in Mumbai, the Press Trust of India reported.
Jaitley said that inflation has been brought under control after the Reserve Bank of India repeatedly cut rates this year, which will bring down the cost of funding real estate projects. The Union minister also asked the sector to submit any tax-related queries to a recently appointed panel on tax issues. Jaitley has helmed a series of moves in the last few weeks to boost business in the country, from cutting taxes to re-examining laws.
