Home Minister Rajnath Singh in an interview with the Economic Times on Sunday mocked political parties that have had one leader for extended periods of time. In a conversation around how a defeat in Bihar might change power equations within the Bharatiya Janata Party, he insisted that party already has 'internal democracy', unlike other all the other parties in the country.

“This is the only political party where elections take place from village units till the national unit on scheduled time," Singh said. "I can assert that no one can question the internal democracy credentials of the BJP. A leader in BJP cannot continue for life, like it happens in other political parties.”
