Controversial Bharatiya Janata Party MP Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday compared actor Shah Rukh Khan with Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai. Adityanath's comments came hours after another BJP leader, Kailash Vijayvargiya, retracted his tweets in which he had called Khan a traitor for speaking on intolerance in India.

Adityanath hit out at Khan two days after the actor said there was "extreme intolerance" in the country. The BJP MP slammed Khan, saying he should remember that if people were to boycott his films, he would also have to wander around like a "normal Muslim". He also said that Khan should go to Pakistan if he did not like the atmosphere in India.

On Tuesday, Vijayvargiya had tweeted, "Shah Rukh Khan lives in India, but his heart is in Pakistan. His films make crores here but he finds India intolerant." Vijayvargiya was forced to retract his tweets and apologise after the BJP strongly condemned his comments. The party has distanced itself from the remarks of both leaders. The Shiv Sena, an ally of the BJP in Maharashtra, also supported Khan, saying he "should not be targeted for being a Muslim".
