Voting for the fifth and final phase of the Bihar assembly elections ended on Thursday, with a turnout of 59.46%. Fifty-seven seats were up for grabs and 827 candidates were in the fray on the day. The constituencies included 24 along the Seemanchal region, which lies near the West Bengal border. Purnea recorded the highest turnout with 62.95%, while Saharsa registered the lowest polling percentage with 50.78%. The overall turnout across five phases was 56.80%, the highest ever recorded in any election in the state, said the Election Commission.

ANI reported clashes between the Grand Alliance and the National Democratic Alliance members in Alinagar in the Darbhanga district. More than 1.5 crore people were eligible to vote in the final phase, which will seal the fate of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led combine and the Grand Alliance, comprising the Janata Dal (United), the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress.
