The driver of an ATM cash van who allegedly fled with around Rs 22.5 crore from southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area on Thursday was arrested by the police on Friday, reported PTI. The stolen cash was also recovered from a godown, said the police. The driver was identified as Pradeep Shukla and is the only accused in the case so far, the police added.

On Thursday night, the armed van had stopped momentarily for the accompanying security guard to relieve himself when Shukla allegedly took off with the money. The van belonged to an independent security agency, which was transporting cash for Axis Bank. A bank spokesperson said earlier that the entire amount was insured so there will be no fallout of the incident. He added that "neither the cash van nor the ATM driver belong to Axis Bank".

Police officials said that this may have been the biggest cash heist in Delhi after the January 2014 gunpoint robbery, when Rs 7.69 crore were stolen from a businessman at BRT corridor near Moolchand flyover.
