Democracy cannot function at whims of others, says Modi
The Prime Minister took a dig at the Congress and Opposition parties after Parliament proceedings were disrupted for the third day in a row.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a dig at the Congress and said that the democracy could not “function at the whims and fancies of everyone”. He also said that it is a matter of sorrow to him that Parliament is being disrupted by the Opposition. "People are only talking about the Good and Service Tax bill, but many other pro-poor steps are stuck in Parliament,” he said. The Congress and other Opposition parties have paralysed Parliament proceedings since Tuesday, and blocked all bills due to be discussed during the winter session.
Modi added that democracy should "be restricted to elections and the government only", and that that everyone must get involved in the country's progress. Each individual must feel like they are working towards development in the country, Modi said.
On Wednesday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi accused the Prime Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party of having a “personal vendetta” after he and party President Sonia Gandhi were accused in the National Herald case. Lok Sabha proceedings were brought to a halt for a third day in a row after the Congress demanded an apology from the BJP for remarks allegedly made by BJP MP Virendra Singh against Rahul Gandhi.
