Three held guilty in Park Street gangrape case
A sessions court in Kolkata convicted Sumit Bajaj, Ruman Khan and Naseer Khan for assaulting Suzzette Jordan, and is likely to announce the sentence soon.
A sessions court in Kolkata on Thursday found three men guilty in the Park Street rape case – Sumit Bajaj, Ruman Khan and Naseer Khan. The sentence might be announced later on Thursday or on Friday, reports said. The main accused in the case is still missing. The woman, Suzette Jordan, was raped by five men at gunpoint on 6 February 2012. She later became an activist for women’s rights after she did not receive adequate support when she decided to go public about her ordeal.
Jordan died in March this year after a brief illness. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came under severe criticism after she accused Jordan of faking the incident, and was criticised once more after the joint commissioner of police who was investigating the case was transferred.
