Kolkata won 2-1 in the second leg, but lost 4-2 on aggregate.
Chennaiyin FC will play FC Goa in the final of the Indian Super League 2015 on Sunday after they defeated Atletico de Kolkata 4-2 on aggregate. Facing the daunting task of overturning a 3-0 lead from the first leg, Kolkata battled hard and won the second leg 2-1, but lost out on aggregate.
The defending champions got an early lead in the first half to give them a lifeline after Lekic capitalised on a defensive error in the 22nd minute. Chennai keeper Apoula Edel made a string of excellent saves through the match to deny Kolkata.
The home team's star Canadian striker Iain Hume did score a late goal in the 87th minute to keep the game alive, but any chance of a Kolkata equaliser in extra time was snuffed out when Chennai's Fikru sank the home fans' hearts with a late goal in the 90th minute.
Chennai may have lost, but they will be happy that they held on to their lead amidst some frantic attacking by the Kolkata strikers. The focus will now shift to the all-important final on Sunday.
