A hundred wildfires broke out in northwest Spain on Saturday night and are still blazing, Agence France-Presse reported. No casualties have been reported yet and 230 firefighters have been dispatched to manage the calamity.

A motorway and five homes that came in the way of the fires were closed off because of the fumes, emergency service workers said. The weather conditions are hampering rescue efforts, officials said, with temperatures rising and gusts of wind causing the flames to billow.

Wildfires have destroyed more than 54,000 hectares of agricultural and forest land in the country this year.
