Water cannons fired at AAP workers protesting outside Arun Jaitley’s house
The party members demanded that the finance minister resign, alleging he was complicit in corruption in the Delhi & District Cricket Association
Hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party members, as well as some senior leaders, gathered outside Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s house in Delhi on Wednesday, to protest against his alleged involvement in corruption at the Delhi and District Cricket Association while he was its president. Police arrived at the spot and water cannoned the protestors, who were demanding Jaitley’s resignation, NDTV reported. AAP MLA Somnath Bharti was among those present at the protest, ABP news reported.
On Tuesday, party president and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pushed the Central Bureau of Investigation to raid his principal secretary’s office in an attempt to protect Jaitley, who was named in the DDCA files that were kept there. Kejriwal demanded that Modi resign. Modi had backed Jaitley fully, and said he would emerge innocent, just as party veteran LK Advani had when he was named in a hawala scam in the 1990s.
On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned after Congress legislators also protested against Arun Jaitley and the DDCA issue, asking for him to resign.
