Khan Market traders to sue Salman Khan for taking their name
The actor's decision to name his new e-commerce website khanmarketonline.com has not gone down well with the businesses that operate out of the popular Delhi shopping hub.
The Khan Market Traders Association in Delhi intends to sue actor Salman Khan for naming his new online shopping portal "khanmarketonline.com". The website has not started shipping goods yet, but is open for registrations. The Delhi-based Khan Market is well-known across the country, with 150 shops and 35 restaurants, The Times of India reported. It is also on a list of costliest retail locations in the world and was the most expensive of its kind in the country in a recent real estate survey.
Association president Sanjiv Mehra said customers are bound to get confused by the name and assume the portal is connected with the market. Khan launched the website on Sunday, his 50th birthday. The traders will approach Delhi High Court when it opens on January 4. Lawyers however do not feel the market has a strong enough case, saying that there has been no trademark infringement.
