Indo-Israeli missile Barak 8 test-fired from INS Kolkata
This was the first test held aboard an Indian ship, after it was sent out twice from Israeli vessels.
The Indian Navy successfully test fired Barak 8, an Indo-Israeli surface-to-air missile, early on Wednesday morning. The missile was test fired from the INS Kolkata, Navy spokesperson Captain DK Sharma said. After the missile was test-fired from two Israeli ships, this was the first test aboard an Indian vessel.
The Barak 8 was designed to defend against a variety of airborne threats, and can simultaneously engage multiple targets in any weather conditions, NDTV reported. Israel will reportedly use the missile in defending its offshore gas fields.
