Mysuru is India’s cleanest city, Dhanbad the dirtiest
Union minister Venkaiah Naidu announced the results of the countrywide cleanliness surveys conducted by Quality Council of India.
Mysuru topped the list of India’s cleanest cities, while Dhanbad in Jharkhand was ranked the dirtiest, according to the results of cleanliness surveys conducted by the Centre. Chandigarh, Tiruchirapalli, Delhi and Vishakhapatnam ranked behind Mysuru among the cities labelled as "leaders" in the list, which are places with the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation. Greater Mumbai was also listed among these cities. Panaji topped the list of “aspiring leaders”, while Chennai came in last in this category.
Union minister Venkaiah Naidu on Monday announced the results of the Swachh Survekshan, conducted by Quality Council of India. QCI Chairman Adil Zainulbhai called it a “seminal project” and said he hopes the initiative serves to push local governments and citizens to “work together for a better future for the next generation”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014, aiming to have a clean India by October 2, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
