The Ministry of External Affairs has taken note of a Twitter faux pas, in which the autofill section of its location-tagging service shows Jammu in Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir in China. There was no option for people to tag themselves in India. MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, “I’m sure it would have been taken up with Twitter. We ourselves do not do this, another division does this; but I’m sure this would be taken up.” ANI quoted government officials as saying that the issue had been raised with Twitter and that they had been given the company's assurance that it will be resolved immediately.

Twitter allows people to tag a place in their tweets. They can either choose their current location automatically pinpointed by GPS services or find a location manually by typing the name of the place and selecting from the options Twitter gives from their database. However, Twitterati found last week that on trying to tag themselves in Jammu or Jammu & Kashmir, they did not have the option to choose India. Users did not spare the microblogging site for this goof up and demanded a correction.
