Former Delhi University professor SAR Geelani was denied bail by the Patiala House Court on Friday. Geelani was arrested on sedition charges on Monday for organising an event at the Press Club of India, Delhi, in support of Afzal Guru. Delhi Police on Friday had said that they would oppose his bail plea.

Security was tightened at Patiala House Court, where Geelani’s bail application hearing took place. On Thursday, because of security concerns, Geelani was produced at Chanakyapuri police station in Delhi, where he was remanded to judicial custody till March 2. He was then sent to Tihar jail.
