Asia Cup: India weather Amir storm to defeat Pakistan by five wickets
Pakistan were bowled out for only 83 after being put in to bat. India lost three early wickets, but were brought back on track by Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh.
In a low-scoring encounter, India weathered an impressive opening spell from Mohammad Amir to chase down Pakistan's 83 and win by five wickets in Mirpur on Saturday.
Put in to bat, Pakistan's batting was in a shambles right from the fourth ball of the first over. Only two Pakistani batsmen managed to get to double figures, with extras being the second-highest score. They were skittled out for 83 with Hardik Pandya the standout for India, picking up 3 for 8 in his 3.3 overs.
But if India had expected an easy chase, they were rudely awakened by Mohammad Amir who grabbed two wickets in his first over. He mixed late swing with pace to have India stuttering at 8/3, and ultimately finished with 3 for 18 off his four overs.
Apart from the early breakthroughs, Pakistan had no luck. Virat Kohli showed great composure under pressure to weather the storm and take India to a more comfortable position. He was finally dismissed one run short of a half-century, followed by a duck from Hardik Pandya, but Yuvraj Singh (14*) and MS Dhoni (7*) finally took India home safely.
