Rahul Dravid is Delhi Daredevils' new mentor
The Indian team's former mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton was also appointed head coach of the Indian Premier League franchise.
Former India cricket captain and current Under-19 team coach Rahul Dravid was appointed the mentor of the Indian Premier League team Delhi Daredevils. The franchise has also hired former India mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton as the head coach. Dravid and Upton worked together for the Rajasthan Royals till last season. The franchise, along with the Chennai Super Kings, was suspended for two years by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha panel for its involvement in the 2013 spot-fixing and betting scandal.
Dravid said, as reported by ESPNCricinfo, "I am very excited by the challenge of taking Delhi Daredevils on to the next level. From what I have seen I have been impressed by the ambition and energy demonstrated by the team and I look forward to working with a group of players that I believe have what it takes to succeed." The former Indian cricketer faces a stiff challenge, with the Delhi Daredevils having endured a miserable last couple of seasons, finishing at the bottom in 2014 and second-from-bottom in 2015. The franchise let go of coach Gary Kirsten at the end of the last season.
