The national capital was put on high alert for possible terror attacks following intelligence inputs that 10 terrorists have entered the country through Gujarat, reported NDTV. Two teams of the National Security Guard were rushed to Gujarat and put on standby on Sunday. National Security Advisor of Pakistan Nasir Khan Janjua had informed his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on Saturday that some terrorists believed to be fidayeen from the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terror groups have entered the state to carry out attacks. These strikes are reportedly aimed at causing havoc during Maha Shivratri celebrations on Monday.

Gujarat Director General of Police PC Thakur held an emergency meeting on Saturday and issued a notification cancelling leaves of all police officers and ordering them to resume duty. Senior police and government officials held another meeting at the secretariat to discuss further course of action. Armed forces had reported that five abandoned fishing boats were found off the coast of Kutch in the past three months. Security has been heightened across the state.

Western Army Commander Lieutenant General KJ Singh had also said on Saturday that the Indian Army has “disturbing inputs” about possible terror attacks in the country during the festival and the ongoing Parliament session. “There are inputs that are disturbing but notwithstanding that extra care has been taken,” he told PTI, adding that the attacks are planned around important events to create “maximum media impact”.
