The Justice Vishnu Sahai Commission which was formed to look into administrative lapses in controlling violence during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots has given a clean chit to the Akhilesh Yadav government. The report was tabled in the state assembly on Sunday. The panel held local police and officials responsible for the communal violence which left 60 dead and thousands homeless in Uttar Pradesh, reported India Today.

The report held Subhash Chandra Dubey, then Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar, and the local intelligence Inspector Prabal Pratap Singh responsible for misguiding people and mishandling the situation. The one-man commission observed that there was clear lax on the part of the administration in containing the violence and the failure of local intelligence made the situation worse. The report was submitted to UP Governor Ram Naik in September 2015, but it was not made public then.
