Businessman Vijay Mallya said on Tuesday that he had filed a complaint with the cyber police in Mumbai against the Sunday Guardian for publishing a "fabricated" interview of his, reported PTI. The weekly newspaper had published an interview on Sunday in which Mallya, who is reportedly in London while Indian investigative agencies are probing cases of loan default against him to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore, was quoted as saying that the "time was not right to return to the country".

However, Mallya said on Twitter on Tuesday that he was "shocked to see media statements" referring to the interview "without verification". He denied having given any interview and said that the email account attributed to him by the publication was not his. “Every comment, therefore, is fabricated,” he said in a statement, adding that the editor of the publication had admitted on Twitter that he would investigate the matter. The businessman also wants all newspapers and TV channels that quoted from the interview to publish a retraction. However, The Sunday Guardian stood by its interview and said that Mallya's email id "was confirmed to us by his legal counsel's office".
