Addressing a public meeting in Birbhum district, Abdul Mannan said the ruling party would not tolerate people who did not vote for them in the elections.
Trinamool Congress leader Abdul Mannan reportedly threatened voter with consequences if West Bengal's ruling party was not get re-elected in the ongoing Assembly elections, reported India Today. Addressing a public meeting in Birbhum's Labpur constituency on Friday, Mannan said, "For the entire year we looked after the welfare of the people. If they do not give sufficient votes to our party then there will be adverse effects." The district will cast its votes to elect the state government on April 17.
The TMC leader asked people to go in pairs to cast their votes so they know who has not voted for the party. "I am warning everyone that they must cast their votes in our favor. We have 1,032 voters and if 900 people cast their votes, we don't expect more than 40-50 people go against us. If our party doesn't receive enough votes then I would know that people have betrayed us," Mannan said.
On April 14, the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for violating the poll code of conduct in Asansol. During a poll rally in Bardhaman district, Banerjee had said that her government will make Asansol a separate district if re-elected to power in the state.
