A 20-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries on Monday after she was hit by a stray bullet during celebratory firing in Delhi's Mongolpuri area on Sunday, reported dna. Anjali was standing in the balcony on the second floor of her residence when a bullet fired by youths during a marriage procession hit her in the head. A case has been registered against the cousin of the groom, who the police believe is responsible for the firing. He is absconding.

Incidents of deaths and serious injuries from celebratory firing are common all over the country. On April 17, police ordered an inquiry after videos showed celebratory firing at cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s wedding. Celebratory firing was banned in the Shamli district of UP following death of an eight-year-old. Only a day after the restriction was imposed, a fourteen-year-old lost his life to a stray bullet fired during a marriage function in UP's Binauli area. A groom also lost his life to a bullet fired by revelers at his own wedding in Sitapur in the same month.
