Maharashtra drought: 12-year-old dies of heatstroke while fetching water
The Class 5 student, who was suffering from dysentery, collapsed after making five trips to a water pump near her house in Beed district.
A 12-year-old girl died of heatstroke in Maharashtra's Beed district on Sunday. She was suffering from dysentery for the past few days, and the five trips she had to make to the nearest water pump proved fatal for the Class 5 student. Yogita Ashok Desai collapsed near the pump, some 500 metres away from her house in Sablkhed village, reported dna.
Doctors said she died of a heart attack and dehydration. The region had recorded its highest temperature of 42°C on that day. “There is a severe water crisis. She had gone to fetch water, where she felt giddy and collapsed,” Ishwar Desai, Yogita’s uncle, told NDTV. The district is one of the worst affected in the state, which is reeling under an acute water crisis.
