'Santa Banta Pvt Ltd' banned in Punjab for allegedly mocking Sikhs
A Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Managing Committee delegation told Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal that the film has 'some ethnic humour which will hurt community's sentiments'.
The Parkash Singh Badal government on Saturday imposed a ban on 'Santa Banta Pvt Ltd' in Punjab saying the film shows the Sikh community in bad light, reported Hindustan Times. A delegation of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Managing Committee met deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and pointed it out to him that the film has some "ethnic humour parts which will hurt the sentiments of the community". Following the meeting, Badal ordered an immediate ban on the film.
There were protests outside the collectorate in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, demanding that the screening of the film be stopped as it portrays the Sikh community in a derogatory manner. The film is directed by Akashdeep Sabir and stars Bollywood actors Boman Irani, Neha Dhupia, Lisa Hayden and comedian Vir Das, among others.
