Bangladesh LGBT magazine's senior editor hacked to death in Dhaka: Reports
The journalist was reportedly among two people who were murdered in the country's capital on Monday.
A senior editor working with Bangladesh's first LGBT magazine Roopbaan was among two people who were hacked to death in Dhaka on Monday, according to reports. The Dhaka police said armed assailants dressed as employees of a courier company entered a flat and killed journalist Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Tanay Mojumdar, reported Dhaka Tribune. This comes two days after a university professor was murdered near his home in the northwestern city of Rajshahi on Saturday.
There has been a rise in the deaths of secular writers and activists in Bangladesh over the last year. A Bangladeshi student, who posted against Islamism on Facebook, was hacked and shot dead earlier this month. Two years ago, another professor at the university, AKM Shafiul, was murdered. In 2015, four secular bloggers were killed.
