A Buddhist monk was murdered by unidentified miscreants in Bangladesh, reported Dhaka Tribune. Mawng Shoi Wuu, 70, was found dead inside the monastery in Baishari union in Bandarban district on Saturday morning.

Police said his attackers slit his throat some time on Friday night, reported PTI. No group has claimed responsibility for the murder so far. The monk was also the chief of the monastery.

This comes only a week after a 65-year-old Muslim Sufi preacher was killed by machete-wielding assailants in Rajshahi city. On May 1, a Hindu tailor was killed while sitting outside his shop in Tangail. In April, a senior editor working with Bangladesh's first LGBT magazine Roopbaan, Xulhaz Mannan, was killed along with his friend Tanay Mojumdar in Dhaka. The al-Qaeda had claimed those murders. On April 23, a university professor was murdered near his home in Rajshahi.

These incidents suggest there has been a worrying rise in the deaths of religious minorities, secular writers and activists in Bangladesh over the last year. In 2015, four secular bloggers were killed in similar fashion.
