Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress is projected to retain power in West Bengal, according to the results of exit polls of the Assembly elections, released on Monday. According to the ABP Ananda poll, the TMC will take 178 seats out of the 295-member Assembly, easily crossing the halfway majority mark of 148. The Congress-Left alliance will win 110 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to be wiped out with just one of its candidates winning.

According to the Times Now-India TV-CVoter poll, the TMC will win 167 seats, the Congress-Left alliance 120 and the BJP will take just four seats. The India Today-Axis poll says that the TMC will take a whopping 243 seats, with the Congress-Left getting 45 and the BJP just three. In the 2011 Assembly elections, the TMC had won 184 seats.

Assam:

In Assam, the BJP-led alliance is expected to kick out the Congress government, taking 81 out of 126 seats in the Assembly, according to the ABP Ananda poll. The India Today-Axis poll and Today's Chanakya also shows the BJP winning big, with 86 and 90 seats respectively. However, the TimesNow-CVoter poll predicts a tight contest between the BJP and Congress. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's party is expected to lose a number of its seats, compared to the 79 it won in 2011. If the BJP wins in Assam, it will be a first in the state.
