West Bengal: BJP supporters protest outside Mamata Banerjee’s house against assault on Roopa Ganguly
State party president Dilip Ghosh led the agitation against the attack on the actor-turned-politician on Sunday, which was allegedly by TMC activists.
Bharatiya Janata Party supporters on Monday protested outside West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s house, agitating against the alleged Trinamool Congress attack on BJP leader Roopa Ganguly. The actor-turned-politician (pictured above) was injured on Sunday after reportedly being attacked by TMC workers. Her vehicle was also vandalised, dna reported.
Police tried to stop a horde of BJP supporters, led by state party president Dilip Ghosh and former president Rahul Sinha, as they tried to make their way past barricades and enter Banerjee’s home in the Jatin Das Park neighbourhood. Ghosh had earlier claimed the TMC was launching such assaults to “ensure an Opposition-free Bengal”. He said on Monday that he will ask Central ministers to boycott Banerjee’s swearing-in ceremony on May 27. “If such attacks on BJP party supporters continue, we will put up a demonstration at the chief minister’s swearing-in ceremony,” he said.
Ganguly, who is president of BJP’s state women’s wing, was visiting a party worker who was injured in an earlier attack. She, along with other party leaders who accompanied her, was assaulted in the Kakdwip subdivision of South 24 Parganas as they were escorting the worker to her village. Ganguly sustained head and back injuries in the incident, The Hindu reported. “The women were beaten up severely...They attacked us with bricks, flung us to the ground, tore our clothes and beat us. It was a well-planned attack. We are still traumatised,” Ganguly said. She also alleged police inaction following the attack.
