Admiral Sunil Lanba takes charge as the new Indian Navy chief
The 58-year-old took over from Admiral RK Dhowan.
Admiral Sunil Lanba became the new chief of Naval Staff on Tuesday, reported ANI. The 58-year-old took over from Admiral RK Dhowan. "I am sure under his leadership, the Indian Navy will execute every task,” Dhowan said.
Lanba emphasised on the need to be constantly vigilant in all quarters and fronts and said the fire power from units of fleet, flotillas and squadrons could be used appropriately if necessary. He also mentioned the International Fleet Review, recently concluded at Visakhapatnam, and said that such an event that had participation of 50 countries indicated the country's growing stature in the region.
Recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Lanba has commanded the minesweeper INS Kakinada, frigate INS Himgiri and has been the executive officer of INS Viraat during his 38-year-long career in the Navy.
