Three BSF jawans killed in ambush on Srinagar-Jammu national highway
The attack took place when the soldiers were travelling from Jammu to Srinagar to join their duties.
Three Border Security Force jawans were killed and five others critically injured on Friday when militants opened fire on their convoy near Bijbehara, in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
The three deceased have been identified as Head Constable Girish Kumar Shukla, Constable Mahinder Ram and Havaldar Dinesh. The injured jawans have been taken to hospital.
A total of 23 vehicles were ferrying a group of jawans who were joining duty from Jammu to Srinagar. "Its an unfortunate incident. The BSF convoy was attacked on the national highway by terrorists who fired at it from the by-lanes near Bijbehara," Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police K Rajendra said.
The Central Reserve Police Force and Rashtriya Rifles have cordoned off the area. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked BSF Director General KK Sharma to visit the spot and assess the situation.
