Emergency in Delhi, says Arvind Kejriwal after police arrest AAP MLA during press conference
Dinesh Mohaniya, the vice chairman of the Jal Board, was accused of misbehaving with a group of women who had complained of water problems.
The Delhi Police arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Dinesh Mohaniya on molestation charges on Saturday, prompting outrage from party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared an Emergency in the city. Mohaniya was accused by a group of women of misbehaving with them on Wednesday when they went to see him about water problems in their constituency, Sangam Vihar. Mohaniya is the vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board.
The police, who arrested him while he was addressing a press conference, also filed a case against him for slapping a 60-year-old man. He was produced before a magistrate and denied bail. He will be in the custody of the Neb Sarai police till Monday. The police said they had to arrest him as he had not been cooperating with them.
Soon after his arrest, Kejriwal said on Twitter, “Modi declares emergency in Delhi. Arresting, raiding, terrorising, filing false cases against all those whom Delhi elected”. He also complained that Mohaniya was arrested “in front of all TV cameras”.
Mohaniya has claimed that all the allegations against him are false.
