Infosys employee's murder: Victim's father and a bookseller identify killer
The 22-year-old accused was picked out from a group of 10 men during an identification parade before a judge.
An engineering graduate has been identified by two witnesses as the man who stalked and killed Infosys employee Swathi at Chennai's Nungambakkam railway station on June 24, reported Hindustan Times. The victim's father, Santhana Gopalakrishnan, and a bookseller at the station picked out Ramkumar from a group of 10 people during an identification parade before a judge.
Ramkumar was arrested from his native village in Tirunelveli district on June 2. The 22-year-old slit his throat when police surrounded him. He is currently lodged in the Puzhal prison.
According to the police, Ramkumar was Swathi’s neighbour in Choolaimedu. He lived in a rented flat and worked at a textile shop in Chennai. Investigators said he was infatuated with her. Police Commissioner TK Rajendran said Ramkumar likely committed the murder when he realised his feelings were not reciprocated. Her family said he had been stalking her for months.
The arrest came a week after the murder. Swathi was waiting to catch a train to work when the incident took place. On June 27, the Madras High Court transferred the case from the Railway Police to Chennai Police after they failed to make any breakthroughs in the case.
