Jammu and Kashmir on high alert after paraglider was spotted over border near Kaluchak
Intelligence officials fear an unconventional attack from Pakistan, and the Jammu district had thus banned paragliding, parasailing and parachuting in the area.
An alert was sounded along the India-Pakistan border on Wednesday after intelligence agencies were informed that local troops had seen a paraglider over the Kaluchak area of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Express reported that a major search operation has been launched in the area, and the Pathankot-Jammu stretch of the national highway is being combed. Intelligence agencies had already feared an attack from Pakistan of this fashion, saying a motorised paraglider could enter far past the Indian border without being easily tracked.
Local residents have been told to stay on their guard and security forces were briefed by senior officers. However, there is no further information on the possible attacker. The Jammu district administration had banned paragliding, parasailing and parachuting in the area in June, to avoid any possibility of terror attacks perpetrated through such means. The Pathankot air base, which was attacked by terrorists in January, has already sprung into action, alerting villagers and launching search operations of their own.
