Court asks for verification report on Oommen Chandy in connection with medical college appointments
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has been asked to submit the report by September 19, based on which further action will be taken.
A special vigilance court in Thrissur on Monday ordered a quick verification against Congress leader and former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and former Scheduled Caste/Schedules Tribe Welfare Minister AP Anil Kumar in connection with alleged irregularities in appointments to Palakkad Government Medical College. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has been asked to submit the report by September 19, reported PTI.
The complaint was filed by Bharatiya Janata Party activist P Rajeevan. He alleged that several appointments to the medical college, which was set up under the Scheduled Caste department, were made violating guidelines. In his complaint, Rajeevan accused six people, including Chandy and Anil Kumar. The court will decide on the next steps, including whether to register a case, based on findings of the report.
Last year, the vigilance bureau had also found similar irregularities at the college. The previous United Democratic Front government, however paid no heed to the allegations and recognised all the appointments.
