Domestic car sales rise nearly 10% in July, says report
While Maruti and Hyundai led the passenger vehicle segment, Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India helped boost sales of two-wheelers.
Data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers on Wednesday revealed that the sale of cars in the domestic market rose by 9.62% year-on-year. Sales were up to 1,77,604 units in July this year as against 1,62,022 units in July 2015. Utility vehicles like Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza and Hyundai's Creta took the sale of passenger cars up by 16.78%.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 2,59,685 units in July as against 2,22,368 units in the same month last year. SIAM Deputy Secretary General Sugato Sen said, "Passenger vehicle sales have grown at the fastest pace since October 2015 when it had posted a growth of 21.46%."
The overall sale of two-wheelers also followed the trend and climbed by 13.52% to 14,76,340 units in the month under review from 13,00,457 units last year. Motorcycle sales in the country saw a rise of 10.98% after Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India all registered sales growth. As many as 8,97,092 units of motorcycles were sold in July, a jump from last year's figure of 8,08,332 units.
Total sales of vehicles across categories touched 18,33,976 units in July, an increase of 13.22% as compared to last year's figure of 16,19,771 units.
