Union minister VK Singh's wife alleges blackmail, lodges extortion complaint
According to the FIR filed by Bharti Singh, the suspect has been threatening to make public doctored audio and video clips unless she pays him Rs 2 crore.
The wife of Union minister VK Singh has alleged that a man known to their family has been blackmailing her and trying to extort money from them. According to the FIR, Bharti Singh has claimed that Pradeep Chauhan has been harassing her with manipulated audio and video recordings of a conversation with him from August 6, threatening to make them public and ruin her husband's reputation, according to NDTV.
She also alleged that Chauhan owned a licensed revolver and had threatened to harm her family if she did not pay him Rs 2 crore. Bharti Singh is unsure of the content of the clips. Police officials believe that Chauhan intended to edit the conversation to warp the content of the recordings. Chauhan has allegedly been bothering her with phone calls.
An extortion complaint has been filed at the Tughlaq Road Police Station, and an investigation has been started. The police said Bharti Singh had approached them on August 12 and they filed a case the next day. An officer said Chauhan is a friend of their nephew, according to The Indian Express.
VK Singh is a minister of state for external affairs.
