The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday flagged off construction work on its new headquarters in Delhi, reported ANI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah laid the foundation stone at the two-acre plot on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.

The hi-tech and eco-friendly complex – a cluster of three buildings with an underground parking space for 200 cars – is expected to be complete before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. A BJP leader said they want to December 25, 2018, which also happens to be Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birthday, as the deadline to inaugurate the office.

Of the three towers, the seven-storey central building will have 70 rooms along with three conference rooms while the two other three-storey towers will be reserved for personal offices of party leaders. The design motif will be the party's symbol, the lotus, reported The Hindu.

According to Hindustan Times, the new building will equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, a digital library, a reading room, solar panels, studios and eateries. Architect Arvind Nandapurkar from Mumbai told The Hindu that the building "will be traditional on the outside, but completely modern with its gadgetry and connectivity.”

An officer-bearer said the full cost of the project is yet to be estimated, but added that party members have contributed generously and have together pooled in more than Rs 65 crore. The party's current headquarters are located at 11 Ashoka Road, around 5 km from the new address.
