Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday promised support and aid from the Centre to five states – UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh – that are reeling under floods, reported PTI . He also said Home Minister Rajnath Singh is closely monitoring the situation, and he is coordinating with the chief ministers concerned to ensure help in the flood mitigation drive, PTI reported.

"Centre assures total support in the rescue & relief operations. I hope the situation in the affected areas normalises at the earliest," Modi said on Twitter. On the same day, Singh spoke to chief ministers Akhilesh Yadav (UP), Harish Rawat (Uttarakhand), Nitish Kumar (Bihar) and Vasundhara Raje (Rajasthan) over phone regarding the situation in the respective states.

The National Disaster Response Force has rescued more than 26,400 people from the flood-hit states so far, according to the news agency. The force has deployed 56 rescue and relief teams in the affected states, besides two Deputy Inspector General-rank officers in Bihar and UP to oversee the situation. "Besides the rescue work, these teams have provided medical care to the more than 9,100 people in these states," the NDRF said. In Bihar alone, the relief and rescue teams evacuated around 3,400 people on Sunday.
